Labelling of National Facilities is an essential part of ACTRIS' operations. Through labelling, National Facilities get certified that they provide high quality data according to ACTRIS operational standards. Topical Centres provide operation support such as calibration, quality control, intercomparison campaigns, and standard operating procedures. The Data Centre makes sure that the data is easily available to the users. Countries have committed to the funding of operations.
Observational platforms get labelled for each component separately, whereas Exploratory Platforms get labelled as a whole and access provision get evaluated.
The National Facility for labelling should be proposed by a member, permanent observer or observer in the ACTRIS ERIC. The Principle Investigator of the station should contact the respective Topical Centre, who will then request ACTRIS Head Office to open the labelling of the facility/component on the labelling portal.
The labelling process consists of the following steps:
- STEP 1a
- Evaluation of the facility
- Upgrade plan and commitment of the host institution
- Initial acceptance
- STEP 1b
- Operation support by ACTRIS
- Performance evaluation for a two-year period or more
- STEP 1c
- Full ACTRIS Label officially approved by the General Assembly
- The labelled facility receives a certificate from ACTRIS ERIC Head office
