Types of Access at ACTRIS

ACTRIS offers different types of access to meet the needs of a diverse user community. Each type of access is designed to facilitate scientific research and innovation while ensuring fair and efficient use of ACTRIS resources.

Virtual Access – Free and open access to ACTRIS data and digital tools through communication networks. Virtual access is available to an unlimited number of users without a selection process. It includes:

  • Access to ACTRIS data and digital tools via the ACTRIS Data Portal
  • Virtual training and access to online tools provided by ACTRIS facilities

Physical Access - Hands-on access to ACTRIS facilities, requiring users to visit the infrastructure in person. Since resources are limited, access is granted through a competitive selection process. Examples include:

  • On-site use of instrumentation and laboratories at ACTRIS National Facilities (NFs) and Topical Centres (TCs).
  • Experimental campaigns at ACTRIS observational platforms.

Remote Access - Access to ACTRIS resources and services without the need for users to be physically present. Like physical access, remote access requires a selection process due to limited resources. Examples include:

  • Remote operation of instruments and experiments at ACTRIS facilities.
  • On-demand computational services or specialized digital tools at the ACTRIS Data Portal.

Hybrid Access - A combination of different access types, allowing users to utilize virtual data resources along with physical or remote access to ACTRIS facilities. Due to resource limitations, hybrid access is also subject to a selection process. Examples include:

  • Using ACTRIS datasets and digital tools while also accessing specialized laboratory equipment.
  • Participating in remote and in-person training programs at ACTRIS facilities.

Who can benefit from ACTRIS Access?

ACTRIS services are open to a wide range of user categories including:

  • Researchers looking to enhance their studies with high-precision atmospheric data and laboratory experiments.
  • Private sector innovators testing and validating air quality technologies or calibration methods.
  • Environmental agencies and decision-makers seeking reliable data for policy and regulatory support.
