Governance

ACTRIS operations are coordinated by ACTRIS ERIC, a specific legal entity for European Research Infrastructures established by the European Commission. ACTRIS ERIC's statutory seat is located in Helsinki, Finland, with one unit located in Italy.

ACTRIS ERIC consists of:

  • the Director General
  • the Head Office
  • the Data Centre
  • the General Assembly
  • the Financial Committee
  • the Scientific and Innovation Advisory Board
  • the Ethical Advisory Boards.

Director General

The ACTRIS ERIC Director General carries out the day-to-day management of ACTRIS ERIC and is responsible for the implementation of the decisions of the General Assembly. The Director General is responsible for managing the staff and activities of the Head Office. The current Director General of ACTRIS ERIC is Dr Eija Juurola.

 

 

Head Office

The ACTRIS ERIC Head Office is the central coordinating body of ACTRIS, ensuring the research infrastructure's efficient operation, governance, and strategic development.

The Data Centre acts as ‘one-stop shop’ for all ACTRIS digital services, including data products and digital tools can be openly accessed by anyone.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is the highest decision-making body of ACTRIS ERIC. It is composed of representatives of the Member and Observer countries of ACTRIS ERIC.

Financial Committee

The Financial Committee is an advisory body of the General Assembly that supports matters related to the financial management and preparation of the budgets, expenditures and accounts, as well as future financial planning of ACTRIS ERIC, Topical Centres and Data Centre. 

The Financial Committee advises the General Assembly and supports the Head Office's work in preparing the financial documents for the General Assembly.

Scientific and Innovation Advisory Board

The ACTRIS ERIC Scientific and Innovation Advisory Board (SIAB) is an independent external body responsible to the ACTRIS ERIC General Assembly and reports annually to the General Assembly. The objective of the SIAB is to advise and support ACTRIS ERIC General Assembly in strategic scientific and innovation related developments of ACTRIS and in the further development of ACTRIS services and operations, and give guidance and recommendations to the Director General. The SIAB is composed of 3-6 members appointed by the General Assembly.

The SIAB shall:

  • Monitor scientific and operative quality of ACTRIS ERIC and ACTRIS;
  • Give feedback and make recommendations to develop ACTRIS ERIC and ACTRIS;
  • Promote novel developments and activities in ACTRIS, this may include new services, collaboration activities with new partners and stakeholders, engaging new user communities

Ethical Advisory Board

The ACTRIS ERIC Ethical Advisory Board (EAB) is an independent external body responsible to the ACTRIS ERIC General Assembly and reports annually to the General Assembly. The EAB gives feedback and makes recommendations to the General Assembly and the Director General to maintain and develop the ethical aspects of ACTRIS ERIC and ACTRIS as a distributed research infrastructure. The EAB is composed of 3-5 members appointed by the General Assembly.

The EAB shall: 

  • Give feedback and advice on how best to maintain and develop ethical aspects of ACTRIS;

  • Assist with the implementation of ACTRIS Ethics policy as approved by the General Assembly;

  • To give expert opinion on potential issues on conflict of interest as addressed in the ACTRIS Ethics policy.
