ACTRIS ERIC is a distributed research infrastructure dedicated to high-quality observation of aerosols, clouds, trace gases and exploration of their intricate interactions. With a commitment to delivering high-quality data, innovative services, and advanced procedures, ACTRIS focuses on unraveling the  4D variability and the physical, optical and chemical properties of short-lived atmospheric constituents. By enhancing our capacity to analyse, understand and predict past, current and future evolution of the atmospheric environment, ACTRIS serves a diverse community of users engaged in observations, experiments, modelling, satellite data analysis, and predicting systems. At its core, ACTRIS offers access to advanced technological platforms designed to explore atmospheric processes critical for understanding air quality and climate change dynamics.

ACTRIS entered the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures Roadmap in 2016 and was awarded as a ESFRI Landmark in the 2021 Roadmap. On 25 April 2023 the European Commission adopted the Commission Implementing Decision (link) to set up the ACTRIS as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC), making ACTRIS ERIC the 26th ERIC in the European landscape.

ACTRIS ERIC has a statutory seat in Helsinki, Finland, and Head Office units located in Finland and Italy. ACTRIS ERIC has 17 Member countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Greece and UK expressed interest in joining at later stages.

ACTRIS ERIC strongly contributes to the new European Research Area (ERA) objectives.

ESFRI, the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures, identifies those research facilities of pan-European importance that correspond to the long-term needs of the European research communities, covering all scientific areas, regardless of possible location, and that is necessary to strengthen scientific excellence and competitiveness in the EU.
