ACTRIS AT Annual Meeting 2025

ACTRIS Austria

On 17 September 2025, the Austrian ACTRIS community (ACTRIS AT) held its annual national meeting in Innsbruck. The meeting was organised in connection with the International Mountain Conference, which takes place every three years and brings together hundreds of scientists from different disciplines to exchange the latest findings in mountain research. This setting provided an excellent opportunity to link the national ACTRIS activities to the broader scientific community working in complex mountainous terrain.

In total, 13 participants from Austria and one colleague from ACTRIS Italy joined the meeting. The agenda covered a broad range of topics relevant to the Austrian ACTRIS community, including:

  • updates on the status and governance of ACTRIS at the European level,
  • recent developments at Austrian ACTRIS stations and laboratories,
  • progress in the implementation of ACTRIS Data Centre and Topical Centres,
  • current and upcoming national and international projects with ACTRIS involvement,
  • and future opportunities for strengthening ACTRIS AT within the global research infrastructure landscape.

A lively discussion focused on the new actris.eu website, including first user feedback on its structure and navigation from the perspective of ACTRIS AT. The participants also addressed the ACTRIS database and portal, raising questions about dataset visibility after noticing the unexpected presence of data from non–National Facility (NF) sites and stressing the need to clarify inclusion rules and metadata standards. Further attention was given to the service catalogue on actris.eu, covering access to measurements, calibration facilities, training opportunities, and possibilities for Austrian partners to both benefit from and contribute to these services. The meeting then turned to the European funding landscape, where, in addition to the ACTRIS-NEXT proposal, participants identified further opportunities to support national activities. Finally, the group discussed the status of NF labelling in Innsbruck and at Sonnblick, outlining the next steps, timelines, and documentation requirements for the upcoming applications.

The meeting concluded with concrete follow-ups: collect website feedback, verify database entries and metadata, prepare the NF applications, and track the most relevant upcoming funding calls.
