The 5th European Lidar Conference 2025

ELC 2025

The 5th edition of the European Lidar Conference (ELC) was hosted by the University of Warsaw, Faculty of Physics, Institute of Geophysics in Warsaw (Poland) from 10-12 September 2025. 

The conference opened with a warm welcome from Conference Chair Prof. Iwona Stachlewska: “The ELC 2025 brought together 135 participants from Europe and beyond! Attendees enjoy 96 presentations, split evenly between oral talks and poster sessions, all organized into five dynamic topic areas. This complemented with booths of the Companies present the newest lidar solutions!”

The conference opened with a session on Advances in lidar technology, showcasing the latest developments across various fields, with particular emphasis on fluorescence lidars. This was followed by the session Lidar Algorithms and Data Products, which focused primarily on EarthCARE satellite validation and EARLINET data analysis methods.

The second day featured a series of engaging presentations on Lidar applications in atmospheric sciences, followed by a dedicated session on Lidar applications in ocean sciences. Notably, this was the first time the ELC brought together the ocean lidar community.

The final day was devoted to exploring synergies between lidar and other instruments. The conference concluded with lively discussions during the Open Forum for Companies and Users.

As accompanying events, the Local Organizing Committee offered participants guided tours of the laboratories and measurement platforms at the Warsaw Observatory Station – an ACTRIS facility – as well as a guided tour of Warsaw’s Old Town. In addition, young researchers benefited from support grants generously funded by Licel GmbH and the University of Warsaw.
