On 25 November 2022, a new ACTRIS/EARLINET climatological dataset has been released by ACTRIS ARES DC at CNR-IMAA. The dataset (Level3 data products) covers 20 years of aerosol observations over Europe and includes more variables and products.
These products provide high-quality information about the vertical distribution and the optical properties of the aerosol over 33 stations on the European continent on a long-term scale. This could also be precious for the European climate and air quality policymakers. Additionally, these products could also be a term of reference for the stations performing measurements to investigate specific processes observed at those stations.
Data are organized for stations to allow future updates of the climatological products even at station level. For each station, three types of data are released: profile values, integrated quantities, and layer statistics. For each type of data, four different temporal aggregations are provided: seasonal, annual, normal seasonal, normal monthly. Level 3 dataset consists of 4158 files, 126 for each station: 42 contain profile values (example reported in the figure below), 42 contain integrated quantities, 42 contain layer statistics. For each category, 20 files report annual statistics (one file per year, from 2000 to 2019); 20 files report seasonal statistics (one file per year, from 2000 to 2019); 1 file reports normal seasonal statistics; 1 file reports normal monthly statistics.
Level 3 climatological products are being included among the in-situ datasets of the Copernicus Climate Data Store (CDS) increasing the number of ECVs served by CDS.
