Laboratorie de Météorologie Physique (LaMP) is new host for vacant ACTRIS Topical Centre on Cloud In Situ Measurements Unit

The Topical Centre for Cloud in Situ Measurements (CIS) unit Centre for Cloud Particle properties (CCPar) has been vacant after the unexpected withdrawal of its former designated host. During the 3rd General Assembly, the delegates now approved that Laboratorie de Météorologie Physique (LaMP) will be the new host of the unit, thus ensuring the implementation of essential cloud in situ variables into ACTRIS.

LaMP is jointly hosted by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS, France) and the Université Clermont Auvergne (UCA, France). The team around Alfons Schwarzenböck consists of known experts for in-situ cloud microphysics observations. They are in charge of operating the French airborne platform for in situ cloud measurements (PMA), dedicated to studying mixed and ice phase clouds on research aircraft. In this role, they built the national cloud probe calibration centre and have demonstrated expertise in cloud data processing. LaMP also operates the natural wind tunnel facility at the Puy de Dôme (PDD) site in central France, where they already hosted experiments for fog monitoring and FSSP intercomparisons.

CIS is looking forward to starting the implementation of the new unit, which will enable the future quality control of important variables of high interest for ACTRIS National Facilities.
